London, UK (November 29,2024) – The Acting CEO of the Kenya Sugar Board (KSB),
Jude Chesire, has been elected the Vice Chairman of the International Sugar Organization
(ISO). This historic achievement marks the first time for Kenya and Africa to hold this
position since the organization’s inception in 1968.
The election took place during the Council meeting held on November 29th, 2024, at 1
Canada Square Canary Wharf, London. Mr. Edgar Herrera (Executive Director LAICA) of
Costa Rica was elected Chairman of the Council. Mr. Chesire succeeds Mr. Herrera and
assumes the role of Vice-Chairman for a two-year term.
The ISO Council is the highest decision-making body in the global sugar industry,
representing 114 countries, including major sugar and ethanol producers such as Brazil,
India, the EU, Thailand, UK, South Africa, Australia, and many others. These countries
collectively produce over 165 million tons of sugar and hundreds of millions of litres of
ethanol annually.
This significant achievement for Kenya underscores the country’s growing influence in
the international sugar sector and its commitment to promoting sustainable sugar
production and trade.
