Josephine is the Deputy Director- Regulations and Compliance at the Horticulture Crops Directorate-Agriculture and Food Authority where she is in charge of ensuring dealers in the horticulture sector comply with the regulatory requirements as well as the enforcement of the Horticulture standards. She has served the Directorate in various capacities before joining the management team in 2013. She has over 15 years’ of experience in the horticulture sector with expertise in food safety. She is a member of the National Codex Coordinating Committee which is the apex body for discussing and developing a national position for CODEX standards. She has been instrumental in steering the implementation of the National Horticulture traceability system as well as reviewing the Horticulture regulations to ensure the regulation provides guidance to exporters on traceability. She represented the country on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture in bilateral negotiations, particularly technical issues touching on sanitary and phytosanitary aspects to facilitate trade. Josephine's expertise is in the implementation of national food control systems including food safety standards and regulations, supporting produce traceability, value chain analysis, policy and regulatory affairs. Josephine has a bachelor’s of horticulture degree from Egerton University Njoro and an Msc. in International horticulture from the University of Essex.
