Regulation & Compliance Department

Our Regulation & Compliance Development service is executed by a specialized external stakeholder support department that that plays a critical role in ensuring that the Horticultural Crops Subsector players comply with relevant laws, regulations, and standards.

The primary objective of R & C is to is to oversee compliance with regulations, codes of conduct, and standards that relate to the the Horticultural Crops Subsector.

The Regulation and Compliance Departments overall objective is to ensure adherence to the Horticultural Crops standards, the code of practice and the Crops Act 2013.

Services
  1. Enhance compliance with standards and other market access requirements so as to ensure conformity to quality and quantity standards required by the markets
  2. Review the existing agricultural regulatory framework in line with the Constitution of Kenya, developments in the sector and international best practice
  3. Develop and harmonize sectin collaboration with Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS )will harmonize the national crops standards with the regional and international one
  4. Review and develop product standards and codes of practice in collaboration with Kenya Bureau of Standards ( KEBS)
  5. Ensure registration and licensing of industry players
  6. Promote self-regulation in line with relevant regulations.

  1. Sorting and Grading: Categorizing produce based on size, color, and quality to meet market requirements.
  2. Cleaning and Washing: Thoroughly cleaning and removing contaminants from fruits and vegetables to maintain hygiene and safety.
  3. Packaging: Properly packaging produce to protect it during transportation and preserve freshness.
  4. Quality Control: Conducting inspections and tests to ensure high standards and product integrity.
  5. Grading and Labeling: Classifying produce and providing accurate labeling information for consumer understanding.
  6. Storage and Cold Chain Management: Maintaining optimal conditions for storage to extend shelf life and minimize spoilage.
  7. Traceability and Documentation: Recording essential information to track produce origin and ensure regulatory compliance.
